Rotary International

With support from ROTARY CLUB OF DELHI MIDWEST and THE ROTARY CLUB OF DENVER. We have constructed 67 (IHHLs) individual household toilets in the village Indri, near Sohna, Distt. Nuh, Haryana.

Alongside construction of toilets we ran handwashing campaign and organized awareness and health camps. Through peer education, we were able achieve significant behavior change of the targeted population.

Both the clubs were jointly felicitated with prestigious “GEORGE K. DAVIS Water and toilet Facilities Award” for the Year 2019 in an award ceremony held at Denver USA on 15th of August 2019. The coordinator for Rotary Club of Denver, Rtn William Korstad (Bill) hailed the efforts of Sulabh Sanitation Mission Foundation’s role in making the village ODF. The mechanics of the Sulabh toilets were explained as well as the methodology used to achieve the desired outcome.

Honda, Motorcycle P. Ltd. Vithlapur Gujarat


With generous contribution from Honda CSR fund, Sulabh Sanitation Mission Foundation constructed 200 toilets in Vithlapur village Ahmedabad, Gujarat. All the selected households were extremely poor and hence could not afford toilets. We have conducted various awareness generation program to make them understand the need of proper sanitation and later trained them on how to clean and maintain the toilets.

Tennis for Toilet Initiative

A doubles charity tennis tournament was organized on 16th April and 17th April 2017 jointly by the embassies of Serbia, Guatemala, Chile and Bosnia and Herzegovina to raise enough money to make one entire Indian village open-defecation free. Sulabh Sanitation Mission Foundation was chosen as the implementing partner on the ground. A total of 14 sponsors including logistics sponsors came forward to make this event a success. The representatives from other embassies who supported the cause were also present in the function and they were given a framed letter of invitation and appreciation by the chief guest. The sponsorship shields were also given by Kiren Rijiju, who was then Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India.

Outcome

The funds raised by this tournament were used for the construction of 105 individual household toilets in village Dhandhuka district. We are pleased to inform that the village is now open defecation free and the villagers have expressed their gratitude for helping the community.

Sanitation Efforts in Schools of Maharajganj

The seven school toilets blocks were constructed in 7 schools of Maharajganj district, Uttar Pradesh which was labelled by Ministry of Panchayati Raj as one of the country’s 250 most backward districts.

Sanitation is a rare practice in this area. Therefore, these toilets proved to be a boon for children and teachers of these schools. These school toilets were funded by G4S India. These school toilets are being maintained a local NGO URJA- Energy. It also runs sanitation awareness campaign amongst school children.

During the opening ceremony of these beautifully constructed toilets, Ms. Raka Singh, Founder of URJA-Energy was present with her spouse H.E. Mr. Jan LUYKX, Ambassador of Belgium to India. School children welcomed them with flowers. The children were excited to see toilets in their school complex.

BASF, Dahej, Gujarat

Sulabh Sanitation Mission Foundation constructed 37 household toilets in Dahejvillage, of Bharuch, Gujarat. The project had a strong impact on the different aspects of community life in Dahej village. The study indicates that there has been a clear improvement in the health, hygiene and sanitation conditions in the village. Construction of the toilets has also created a safer environment for women and girls as now they do not have to go out for defecation. These toilets are easily accessible by the elderly and physically challenged persons at all times. The WASH programs were further strengthened through workshops, orientations, training programs and film shows aimed at raising awareness about good health and hygiene. The villagers, in general, seem to be very satisfied and happy with the outcome of the sanitation project.

UIIC, Krishnagiri, TamilNadu

Sulabh Sanitation Mission Foundation constructed total nine school toilet blocks in collaboration with United India Insurance Corporation Limited in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. Teachers and students were really happy to have state-of- the-art toilets in their schools. It has been reported that there has been a remarkable outcome in the attendance of girl students following the construction of the toilets We have also installed sanitary napkin vending machine in girls’ lavatories in all schools.

Skill Development Centre, Sultanpur, Haryana

Sulabh sanitation mission foundation has established a vocational training center in collaboration with the G4S Secure Solution (India) Pvt. Ltd. CSR initiative. The center offered training on computer literacy and ran hair dressing, beautician and sewing courses. Hundreds of village women have been economically empowered through this program. A number of girls and women now have opened tailoring schools.

Role in Combating COVID-19

During the Initial days of pandemic outbreak, our trained sanitation workers — at a very short notice—provided their services in quarantine centers across Delhi. Our workers and volunteers are among the frontline COVID warriors. They worked a day in and day out tirelessly to sanitize and maintain the premises of respective quarantine centres. Our organization has received the appreciation letter from the Department of Health & Family Welfare, GNCTD for maintaining of the quarantine centres.
